Many of our CIRC members and friends knew John Osborn from his years working in commercial real estate at companies such as Investors Realty, Patterson-Woods Commercial and Patterson Osborn Exchange Services, LLC, but especially from his work as a 1031 exchange intermediary. But did you know that John was CIRC's second president in 1978 and 1979, following Leigh Johnstone and preceding Carmen Facciolo? His presidency coincided with the year when the organization - having first come together in 1976 as the Commercial Industrial Council (C.I.C.) - became incorporated as a non-profit organization: Commercial-Industrial Realty Council of New Castle County, Inc. (CIRC). Click here if you would like to know more about CIRC's history, founders and presidents.

Duncan Patterson recalls "John came to work for Patterson-Woods in 2000. John and I started Patterson Osborn Exchange Services, LLC in 2003. I first worked with John in the mid 80’s when he was working for Terry Strine, and a group of us, including Arnold Goldsborough and Jerry White, sold the excess schools in the Brandywine and Red Clay school districts. John was excellent in doing 1031 exchanges as he was very detail oriented."

Terry Strine, of Investors Realty, shared his surprise at John's passing and said "he was a very dear and special friend. My wife, Sandy, and I knew John and his wife, Heloise, and their family really well from many visits to their home and at the beach. John had integrity, great energy, and was liked and loved by all who knew him. He was very successful, thorough, competent and reliable as a 1031 intermediary - and many looked to him as their 1031 intermediarySandy and I stopped doing brokerage in the late '70s or early '80s and became full time investors, and John moved on to work with Duncan Patterson. I've done a half dozen or so 1031 exchanges with John and he was always efficient, thorough, knowledgeable and dependable."

John Osborn will be dearly missed.
